Where is the Best Place to Visit in Thailand?
The new year is turning in just a week’s time and already there are people writing in to ask us which is the best place to visit during their Thailand vacation – Krabi or Phuket? Krabi or Phang Nga? Krabi or Koh Samui? Or somewhere else entirely? Pattaya maybe? Lol. No!
Krabi is the best place to visit. No doubt of that. Here’s why…
Bangkok is too busy, and not relaxing. Nobody can relax in the big city. If you go to Bangkok, you just want one thing – shopping. If you go to Bangkok this year, quickly take a flight down to KBV – Krabi’s International Airport and spend the rest of your time relaxing. Krabi is the ideal place to relax!
Phuket has been a madhouse in the past. Far too many people jammed onto the island, especially in Patong Beach and Phuket Town, making it appear like Samui II. I’m not sure which is more crowded anymore, but the crowds are a great reason to skip both places altogether.
If you want nightlife – go to Patong Beach for a couple of nights until you get your fill – then come over to Krabi by ferry or vehicle and get some relaxation in on your vacation.
What makes Krabi so great, and the ultimate Thailand destination is there are hundreds of things to do – and little to stress out about. Really. There are waterfalls, viewpoints to see, hot springs, cold springs, islands galore (Phi Phi, Koh Yai, Koh Noi, Koh Lanta, and chickenhead!), scuba and snorkeling, trail hiking (trekking), a bit of nightlife on Ao Nang, Koh Phi Phi and Railay Beaches, beach bungalows, caves, mountains at temples with steps to climb to see amazing views, mountain bike riding, temple exploring, and some really good places to eat – if you know where to look!
Not to mention we have conference facilities, wilderness bungalows, super cheap hostels in Krabi Town, and nighttime wildlife tours, and fairly safe roads in comparison to other major holiday destinations in the country.
Best Hike in Thailand?
What also makes Krabi the ultimate destination is that we have better prices, friendlier people, friendlier police, fewer accidents, fewer problems between locals and visitors, awesome food at Ao Nang Beach, amazing street food, and we’re close enough to other major places you might want to jump-off to for a day or so like: Trang, Satun, Phuket by boat, Surat (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao), Phang Nga or even Nakhon Si Thammarat, home of the famous Wat Mahathat Buddhist temple that is around 1,000 years old.
Krabi has been our home for almost 9 years now. We have found it to be the most hospitable place to raise a family because it has just enough of the essentials like shopping at Big C, Tesco, Makro, and Outlet Store, and then there are more shopping markets popping up every day.
There is a major entertainment center being built across the street from (near to) Big C which will have big shows and markets inside. I’m sure someone must have the idea to put a Central World shopping center soon, but today we don’t have one. That is a good thing in our opinion because we will have a madhouse when we finally get one.
So, for this year and beyond, look no further than right here in Krabi. We have everything most tourists love – clean water, nice beaches, decent shopping, and many other things to do outside.
