Krabi Birdwatching Report 22 Oct

We recently had someone go out on our Birdwatching by Boat tour of the Krabi River mangroves area and they really did well with the number of species they found. We’ll share the list below. Some may be errors, they weren’t experts on the local birds.


Birding Report – Krabi Town Mangroves and Mudflats Boat Ride, 22-October

Distance Traveled: 20.0 kilometer(s)

Birds Found: 32 species (+1 other taxa). Many many birds on mudflats, could not count or ID all. Guide had very little English, so these are our own IDs, with some probable mistakes, but great morning! Kingfishers were great, several high flying raptors not ID’ed.

  • Greater Sand Plover (Anarhynchus leschenaultii) 20
  • Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) 20
  • Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) 12
  • Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) 1 (not sure??)
  • Asian Dowitcher (Limnodromus semipalmatus) 1 (pretty sure)
  • Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) 20++
  • Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) 3
  • Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) 1
  • Lesser Crested Tern (Thalasseus bengalensis) 2 difficult to be sure on both terns
  • Great Crested Tern (Thalasseus bergii) 2
  • Pacific Reef-Heron (Egretta sacra) 2
  • Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) 1 (not positive)
  • Striated Heron (Butorides striata) 1
  • Chinese Pond Heron (Ardeola bacchus) 10
  • Great White Egret (Ardea alba) 20
  • Medium Egret (Ardea intermedia) 20
  • Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) 1
  • Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) 2
  • White-bellied Sea-Eagle (Icthyophaga leucogaster) 1
