Location in Krabi
This hotel is located on Chao Fa Road at the intersection of Uttaradit Road in Krabi Town near the river and the pier. It is a six-story hotel.
Rooms in Grand Tower Hotel
This is an old Krabi hotel that doesn’t look like much from the lobby and that’s later confirmed by a visit to the room. I stayed here for a number of weeks, they quoted 7000 baht for a month in a fan room. There is a small television and a refrigerator.
The price is right and for the 2nd-floor rooms it’s a good price because the room is cool enough that you don’t need air conditioning except maybe during the hot season (March and April). The upper-level rooms – especially the top floor – are dirt cheap (100 baht per night) but, are extremely hot and retain the heat for most of the night because it’s all concrete that soaks it up. I’ve not stayed there at night, only had a look at them at 7:30 pm and they were 40 degrees Celsius and much dirtier than the other rooms.
The locks on the doors are not solid on those upper floors and there are tenants that are likely bargirls and others of the same ilk. There is no hot water in the fan room. There is hot water in the air-conditioned rooms. Sorry, I don’t have the price for an air-conditioned room.
This hotel is not all that quiet since it is on Chao Fa and occasionally there will be drunk tourists walking up the street talking, yelling, dancing or whatever else. There are usually a handful of backpackers staying at this hotel, but the next night – none. I didn’t see any other western visitors here during my stay of 2 weeks.
I liked staying at this hotel for one reason: 1. It’s proximity to other things on Chao Fa as well as the Pier and it’s just a short walk down the hill into town.
Food: I didn’t try the food available downstairs in the lobby.
Getting Around
There are motorbike taxis constantly coming by and tuk-tuks occasionally. If you want to go to Ao Nang there are white pickup trucks that have seating in the back. They say AO NANG on the side. They also stop at Ao Nam Mao and fossil shell beach. If you are having trouble getting where you want to go from the front of the hotel, take a taxi to the Vogue Center – which is the mall in the center of town or the pier – you can go anywhere from those two places.
Chao Fa road has a lot of taxis cruising up and down the road and you shouldn’t have ANY trouble finding some form of transportation to get you where you want to go.
Positives of this Krabi Hotel:
1. Great location as it’s within walking distance of the mall, the Chao Fa pier, Viva Italian Pizza restaurant, and the bars on and around Chao Fa Road.
2. Super inexpensive.
