We’re looking outside in krabi town at the scene above. Rain pouring down at an incredible rate of liters per minute. Millions upon millions.
Should You Come to Krabi Now?
Yes! The answer is always yes. It rains everywhere in the world, and it isn’t cold rain, it’s just wet and warm still. It’s funny but you don’t have to tell visitors from Britain – they don’t care about the rain when it’s warm like this. They don’t even bring raincoats on some of the wildlife tours!
Weather and Radar – Our Best Weather App?
We use the Weather and Radar (.com) site for looking at our local Krabi weather. It’s not right all that often, but it is correct MORE than the others we’ve tried, so we either go with what it says, or just throw our hands up in the air and go do what we were thinking about doing anyway.
It often works out that there isn’t any rain and we have the best time in Krabi doing something we love because we didn’t think about the rain and if it would happen.
September and October are the two rainiest months in Krabi. We may have rain everyday for a week or so. It may be a little every day, or it might be a downpour every day for a week. We never know what is happening.
This rain we have now may blow right over. Here’s the Radar for Krabi right now:

Krabi Weather Pattern
As a rule, we look at the 2 days before today and look at what the rain was doing.
If it was pouring down for 2 days and we wake up the third day and look outside and it looks like rain – it will likely rain hard that day too.
If over the past two days it was lightly raining with quick showers blowing through fast (10 mins) and moving on and giving us some sunny or just cloudy without rain weather – then that is likely what will happen today.
Rain type comes in groups of days during these two months and it’s pretty easy to predict what is happening.
It isn’t easy for you to predict from home whether making a trip to Krabi will be a great time or filled with rain.
Mornings are different from afternoons and those are different from evenings. Rain tends to come during a certain time of day unless it’s just raining hard all day everyday, which happens, but not too often. That happens 1x or 2x a season during Sept/Oct. It could rain 10 days in a row at the most. Something like that.
You WILL have some dry moments during these months. There will be plenty. It’s 9:30 am right now. The morning up to this point was perfect! Hazy sky and not hot. Perfect for a climb up the local mountain hill which we almost did.
We book a lot of tours this month for September and next month is usually the same. Most are booking for November and December when the weather is nearly always with less rain, but many people come during this time to avoid crowds and to enjoy the cool but still warm-enough weather.
Krabi will have a new shopping center finished by the end of this year – Krabi Central Mall!
We’re excited to see what it’s all about. It isn’t going to be built in the usual way Central Malls are built in Bangkok, Phuket, and other big shopping areas. This one will be a group of stores together, similar to an international outlet mall or something. It will give you a great place to relax when the rain is pounding outside!
Rainy Season Vibes in Krabi
September and October bring heavy rain showers, but that doesn’t mean your trip is ruined. The storms usually roll in hard and fast, then clear up to reveal fresh air, greener mountains, and waterfalls spilling full power. If you’re cool with a little unpredictability, this season can actually be one of the most beautiful times to see Krabi.
Should You Still Visit During the Rain
If you’re looking for a beach-only holiday with guaranteed sunshine, this isn’t the best time. But if you’re into nature, fewer crowds, and lower hotel prices, you’ll find a lot to love. The rain cools things down, keeps the dust down, and makes the landscape come alive. Plus, you won’t be fighting for space at the popular spots.
When you are here you’ll be able to better predict what the weather will be doing for the next couple of days. If today was nice, it will probably be nice tomorrow too! That’s the way it works. Think “groups of days”. If nice one day, it will probably be nice a couple of days. If raining hard a day or two, it will likely continue that for a bit.
Things To Do When the Rain Hits
When the skies open up, you’ve got options. Indoor cooking classes, Thai massage sessions, and spa days are perfect rainy-day fillers. Cafes around Ao Nang are cozy spots to hang out with good coffee. And like we said, Central Mall will soon be the ultimate go-to hideout. You can also join a local market crawl with a rain jacket or hop into a tuk-tuk and explore—getting caught in the rain can be part of the fun.
Outdoor Fun Between Showers
Rain usually comes in bursts, so grab those clear windows. Hikes to the Tiger Cave Temple are cooler without the blazing sun. Kayaking through mangroves is amazing in soft rain. And if you’re a photographer, this is when the limestone cliffs look their most dramatic against stormy skies.
Travel Tips for the Wet Season
Pack a lightweight poncho or umbrella, quick-dry clothes, and sandals that can handle puddles. Don’t trust the weather apps completely—storms can form out of nowhere and disappear just as fast. If you book island tours, choose flexible operators who will move your trip around depending on weather safety.
